Our review of Burnville Farm Cottages
ACCOMMODATION AND PRICES
There are three self-catering properties to choose from at Burnville Farm: The Red Barn (sleeps six in three bedrooms), the Farmhouse (sleeps ten in four bedrooms) and the Coach House (sleeps 11 in 5 bedrooms).
The Farmhouse is a listed, story-book property amongst barns and animals, with its own enclosed, secluded garden with lawn and stream, and a spacious, traditional interior. The converted Coach House is set in its own one-acre garden, while the Red Barn is spacious and well appointed, and located approximately ten minutes walk away from the other houses. All the cottages have a cosy open fire.
For an idea of prices, a week in the summer peak in six-person Red Barn costs around £2400, though out of season could be yours from as little as £800/week.
CHILD FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
There are some fantastic shared child-friendly facilities at Burnville Farm. Top of our list is the heated outdoor swimming pool open May to September – perfect for summer holiday fun for all ages – while two of the cottages here (Red Barn and Coach House) also have their own ‘endless flow’ private indoor pools. There’s also a tennis court, badminton and volleyball equipment.
Those seeking a games room for older kids or entertainment on wetter days will enjoy Burnville Farm’s refurbished barn with pool, table tennis and skittles.
Set on a 250-acre working farm, you’ll find sheep, cattle, ponies, chickens and more roaming the countryside near your cottage, and help with the animals from guests is very much welcome! Other activities including clay pigeon shooting, archery and mountain bike can be arranged on request. There’s no shortage of safe open space for children to explore and roam about, including an attractive lake for summer picnics. With direct access to the open moors, the cottages are perfectly located for family walks or cycling.
PARENT FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
There are some nice little extras available for mums and dads visiting Burnville Farm – we particularly like the fact that the owners (situated at their nearby B&B) offer professional catering at your cottage and/or meals in their own house. There’s also a lovely walled vegetable garden with fresh veg and eggs available in season. Or, if you prefer eating out, Lydford is renowned for its two excellent pubs.
Parents will also enjoy making use of the gym facilities which accompany the games room. Pets are welcome in all the cottages, and WiFi is provided. Baby and toddler equipment like high chairs and cots are also available.
IN SUMMARY…
We just love cottages like those at Burnville Farm. Tons for the kids to do whatever the weather, and lots to explore in the local area. Ideal for a family summer holiday in the sunshine, but equally suitable for February or October half term!
