FEATURES AT A GLANCE
Our review of Macdonald Aviemore Resort
ACCOMMODATION AND PRICES
There’s a variety of accommodation on offer at Aviemore Resort, including no less than three four star hotels. Aviemore Hotel is the most child friendly offering, designed with visiting families in mind and just a short two minute walk from the activity centre (see below for more details). Family bedrooms sleep up to two adults and two children, incorporating a children’s bunk area with dedicated TV. Alternatively, at the nearby Highlands Hotel, family rooms sleeping 3 or 4 people are also available and can in some cases be inter-connected to allow larger groups to share a larger space in comfort.
Alternatively, for self-catering family breaks, choose a spacious woodland lodge nestled in the ancient pine forest. There are 18 in total, sleeping either four people in two bedrooms or three people in six. The lodges are cosy, well-equipped and provide cosy, comfortable accommodation in a superb setting. Larger lodges benefit additionally from an outdoor deck, a wood burning stove and have all en-suite bedrooms.
For an idea of prices, a family of four staying in a family room at the Aviemore Hotel during the summer holiday peak period can expect to pay from £235/night. A week-long stay in a two bedroom lodge during the same period costs around £2800 (on a bed and breakfast basis).
CHILD FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
There’s something for the whole family at Aviemore Resort. Top of our list, as always, is the fantastic indoor swimming pool complex with flume and wave pool.
Also impressive is the activity centre, offering a huge 4-storey soft play area (with handy overlooking café for the parents!), mini soft play for younger tots, a calm sensory room, air hockey table, TV with DVDs and Xbox, tree house, dressing up area and more. And there’s even an on-site cinema with all the latest film releases.
Outside you’ll find a large and safe adventure park perfect for little ones to run around, let off steam and explore.
During school holidays the resort offers a busy programme of entertainment for kids including arts and crafts, sports clubs, discos, face painting and much more, while outdoor activities including junior quad bikes, bike hire, bubble football and grass sledging can be booked during the summer holidays.
PARENT FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
There’s a family friendly restaurant, Spey Burger, located within the Aviemore Hotel which offers burgers, burritos, milkshakes and more. The hotel also has a child friendly family lounge bar for a relaxing evening drink. Additional dining options are also available at other locations across the resort, including Aspects Restaurant and Giovanni’s Italian Ristorante. If you’re staying in a lodge and don’t fancy a trip out, why not get freshly cooked pizza delivered direct to your door?
Gym bunnies can make use of the gym at the swimming pool complex, and mums and dads can also enjoy a moment of tranquillity in the sauna and steam room.
Golfers will enjoy the Macdonald Spey Valley Championship Golf Course, with breath-taking views of the Cairngorms. Or unwind with a relaxing beauty treatment in one of the dedicated therapy rooms. Spey Valley Shopping is also on-site providing a variety of luxury shopping experiences.
Pets are permitted to stay in some hotel bedrooms for a small additional fee, and free WiFi is available across the resort.
IN SUMMARY…
This award winning family friendly resort is a great option for those looking for hotel or lodge accommodation in the Scottish Highlands, with a wide range of child friendly facilities on site sure to keep the whole family happy – plus beautiful countryside on your doorstep!
