Hameau de Montengrand is situated in the tiny hamlet of Montengrand, just five minutes from the bustling town of Mirepoix, with its beautiful mediaeval square, twice-weekly markets and numerous cafes and restaurants. Walking and cycling is popular in the area, and there’s a large lake nearby for swimming. The beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean can be reached in just over an hour, while Montengrand is well placed for exploring the wider Languedoc and Midi-Pyrenees areas.

ACCOMMODATION AND PRICES
Hameau de Montengrand comprises a picturesque row of five stone cottages, all sympathetically converted into stylish, comfortable, well equipped holiday homes. Original features like exposed beams and stone walls contrast with custom-built modern kitchens and an eclectic mix of new and vintage furnishings.
The properties all have their own private south facing gardens and terraces.
Sizes vary: La Petite Maison is ideal for two adults and two children; La Porcherie and Pierre’s House are suitable for two adults and up to three children; and La Bergerie and Hayloft comfortably sleep two adults and up to four children. All can accommodate an additional baby in a cot too.
For an idea of prices, a week-long stay for a family of four at Montengrand during the summer holiday peak starts at 1995 euros (approx. £1700). The lowest weekly rental price is 1375€, staying in La Petite Maison for May half term.
CHILD FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
Hameau de Montengrand is set in 30 acres of wildflower meadows, woodland and pasture, meaning it offers a wealth of safe and tranquil outdoor space for children to enjoy. From football or cricket in the grounds to the tipi full of dressing-up clothes and the large wooden play fort, there’s plenty of fun to be had.
The complex also offers a large outdoor heated swimming pool, carved into the hillside and offering an idyllic spot to enjoy a splash and soak up the French sunshine. The pool is securely fenced to ensure it’s fully child-proof for younger tots.
The resident miniature Shetland ponies, sheep, chickens and guinea pigs offer a friendly welcome for animal-loving children, who’ll enjoy helping with their daily feeding. The surrounding countryside is also a haven for numerous birds and wildlife including squirrels, hare and deer.
PARENT FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
It wouldn’t be France without the opportunity for a morning delivery of fresh bread and croissants, and there are delicious oven-ready meals available to purchase too.
Near the swimming pool is a fantastic summer kitchen equipped with built-in gas BBQ, fridge freezer, dishwasher and sink, providing a great spot for evening dinner with the family. The owners of Montengrand also regularly organise events in the bar in the barn where guests get to make their own pizza and cook it in the wood-burning oven. The on site honesty bar sells wine & beer.
For the ultimate in parental indulgence, why not pre-book a massage or beauty treatment in the comfort of your cottage?
And the owners can put you in contact with a small number of trusted English-speaking babysitters – ideal for mums and dads who fancy dinner (or perhaps a trip to the vineyard!) without the little ones. The nearest restaurants (and there are plenty to choose from!) are in Mirepoix, roughly five minutes drive away, or a 15-20 minute bike ride along a safe, off road cycle track running past the Domaine. Bike hire is possible (including tag alongs, children’s bokes, trailers and helmets) from a local company who deliver to the cottages.
Families travelling with younger children will be grateful to discover that baby and toddler equipment like stair gates and high chairs are available to borrow, saving valuable space in the car.
