FEATURES AT A GLANCE
Our review of Luccombe Holidays
ACCOMMODATION AND PRICES
Luccombe Holidays offers a variety of lovingly restored farm cottages, situated around the attractive gardens of the farm complex. The properties offer high quality, comfortable self-catering accommodation and offer all the modern comforts you’ll need during your stay while retaining attractive original features. All the cottages benefit from plenty of outdoor space and seating areas.
There are nine cottages in all, offering a variety of sizes and configurations to suit all requirements. The smallest property (the Granary) sleeps three in a single bedroom (a king size double with an ottoman suitable for a child, or a cot), while there are several cottages sleeping four in two bedrooms, and a larger cottage (the Stables) sleeping seven in three bedrooms. Some of the cottages have interconnecting doors, accommodating larger groups of up to eight in four bedrooms.
For an idea of prices, a family of four staying at Luccombe Farm during the summer holiday peak can expect to pay around £1165 in two bedroom Lavender Cottage; while an October half term stay in the same property would cost £870. We think that’s great value, and families with younger children able to stay outside peak school holiday times can grab a break for even less. Short breaks are also possible; at the time of writing, two adults and two children visiting for a long weekend in November can expect to pay around £485.
CHILD FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
There’s a wide range of activities at Luccombe Farm to entertain families with children of all ages, regardless of the season or weather.
For inside fun, head to the heated indoor swimming pool with powerful swim jet and jacuzzi nozzles; or hang out in the games room equipped with pool table, table football and a selection of board games. There’s also a table tennis table in the gym area. Younger tots, meanwhile, will enjoy the jumperoo and ride-on toys in the games room.
Heading outdoors, Luccombe Farm has a fantastic children’s play area with slide, swings, climbing area and so on; plus a giant chess set, croquet, swingball, badminton, boules and ride-on toys to enjoy across the wealth of safe outdoor space and extensive landscaped gardens. There’s also a tennis court, with racquets and balls free to borrow.
As a working farm, a stay at Luccombe involves daily encounters with resident animals including friendly donkeys, goats and ducks; and there’s daily animal every day at 10am – a really memorable experience. Alpaca walking can also be arranged for an additional fee.
Younger children will love Luccombe’s unique fairy and elf door hunt – grab a map and explore the farm! And with a wide range of walking trails running in all directions from the farm, including the Dorset Jubilee Trail, it’s easy to make the most of the beautiful Dorset countryside right from your doorstep. Mountain bikes for both adults and children are also available to borrow free of charge if you want to explore the area on two wheels.
PARENT FRIENDLY HOLIDAY FEATURES
Mums and dads will enjoy relaxing in the sauna which accompanies Luccombe’s swimming pool, and the gym with machines, weights, mats and fitballs means you don’t need to pause the exercise regime while you’re away (though frankly, here at Parent Friendly Stays, we definitely would!).
The pretty chocolate-box village of Milton Abbas is a short ten-minute stroll from the holiday cottages, and offers a tea room and a welcoming pub for easy dinners or an afternoon pint in the sunshine. Or, make use of the farm’s picturesque BBQ area at the water’s edge for a relaxing meal as the sun goes down. Gourmet dining experiences and pre-cooked meals delivered to your cottage can be booked for an additional charge from the on-site Dorset Country Kitchen.
For parents who fancy a child-free activity during their stay, both clay pigeon shooting and fishing on a private lake can be arranged.
Fast and free WiFi is available in all cottages, and three of the properties are dog friendly. Equipment for babies and toddlers is available to borrow including cots, highchairs, bed guards, stair gates and baby baths.
At Parent Friendly Stays we love the small extra touches, which at Luccombe Farm include a lovely welcome tray awaiting your arrival with wine, snacks, chocolates, tea and biscuits – plus fruit juices and snacks for the kids!
IN SUMMARY…
Luccombe Farm is the kind of holiday destination we love to feature on Parent Friendly Stays: tasteful child friendly accommodation, terrific on-site facilities for families, competitive prices even at peak season, and Dorset’s many attractions within easy reach. Definitely one for our ‘must visit’ list!
